The View From Pill Hill: A Day in the Life of an SPU Student Nurse

Spencer Hendricks leads a double life. One day, he鈥檚 sitting in class like a typical 海角网 senior, and the next day he鈥檚 entering notes into a patient鈥檚 chart or putting in a catheter, which, he says, 鈥渋s the pinnacle of nursing-student experience.鈥� During Winter and Spring quarters of his junior year, Hendricks spent two days a week at 海角网鈥檚 Harborview Medical Center. It was part of the roughly 950 hours he will spend working in a clinical setting over the course of two years in the SPU nursing program. 鈥淐linical experience is required because nursing is about 海角网, not just about what is in the books,鈥� says Lucille Kelley, dean of SPU鈥檚 School of Health Sciences. 鈥淲e鈥檙e preparing students for the profession of hands-on nursing.鈥�
