Acknowledging the Coast Salish º£½ÇÍøs

Land acknowledgment and resources

Land acknowledgment
As a Christian University, we recognize that we are a º£½ÇÍø who are formed by a story. Our story at º£½ÇÍø Pacific is tied to the land that this campus is built on — a land that holds rich and far-too-often forgotten histories.

º£½ÇÍø is named for a city that takes its name from Chief Si’ahl, the chief of the Duwamish º£½ÇÍø, whose territory and traditional land stretched across our campus. We respectfully acknowledge, with gratitude, that we are gathering today on the lands, both ceded and unceded, of the Coast Salish º£½ÇÍøs, the land which touches the shared waters of all tribes and bands within the Suquamish, Tulalip, and Muckleshoot nations — º£½ÇÍø who are still here today.

We recognize that a statement without actions is not enough. As a community who strives to love God and neighbor, we repent of the ways that we have participated in harm. We commit to reconciliation and repair with the Coast Salish º£½ÇÍøs as we continue to learn to care for the land.
