Walls lectureship
Walls Lecture: “The Wesleyan Option: A Compelling Theological Witness for Todayâ€

Please join the º£½ÇÍø Pacific Seminary for the Paul T. Walls Lectureship on Tuesday, May 6, 7 p.m., in Upper Gwinn. The speaker is Doug Strong, the Paul T. Walls Professor of Wesleyan Studies and professor of the history of Christianity. He will present the lecture, “The Wesleyan Option: A Compelling Theological Witness for Today," which will explore how Wesleyan Holiness offers a revivalist, intellectually robust, and justice-driven alternative for a broader Christian vision for the whole Church.

The next All-Univeristy Chapel is Tuesday, May 6, 11 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church. This quarter's theme is "The Hope of Glory: Christ in You" and the featured speaker is President Porterfield. The chapel Spring Quarter schedule can be found on the Office of Student Ministries website.

May 8: Celebration of Service in Upper Gwinn

This year we will celebrate the annual faculty awards, years of service awards, as well as the announcement of professor and staff members of the year on Thursday, May 8, 11:10 a.m in Upper Gwinn. There will be a community reception immediately following the event. All offices are closed during the celebration so the faculty and staff can attend.

SPU Theatre presents "The Voice of the Prairie." Free tickets for faculty, staff.

SPU Theatre presents "The Voice of the Prairie" with special guest director Scott Nolte, SPU alumnus and co-founder of Taproot Theatre. This nostaligic comedy is about the new invention of radio as it spreads across America at the turn of the 20th century. A radio salesman searches for a voice to captivate his audience and the stories he discovers begin to connect characters across time and space.

All SPU faculty and staff can redeem two free tickets on the night of their choice by emailing the Theatre Box Office at boxoffice@spu.edu or calling 206-281-2959. The Box Office is open 4–6 p.m., Monday–Friday or an hour before each performance.

coach mcclain
McClain receives USRowing Award

on April 9. The award annually recognizes outstanding contributions to women's rowing. McClain guided the SPU varsity four crew to the 2024 national championship, and the Falcons finished fifth in the final NCAA overall team standings. She has been active on the international scene since 2014, having served for many years with the United States under-19 women’s national team. This past year, her U-19 national women’s eight-oared crew won by over five seconds at the 2024 World Rowing Championships. Congratulations, Caitlin!

McKinney invited to present research

Jennifer McKinney, professor of sociology and director of Women’s Studies, was invited to present her research, “Does American Evangelicalism Have a Masculinity Problem? Authoritarianism, Patriarchy, and Christian Nationalism,” for Centre College’s Spring Convocation series on April 17.

JoAnn Flett, executive director of the Center for Faithful Business, was the featured speaker at the C3 Leaders event for women leaders on April 24. Her topic was, "Kingdom-Minded Business Women — Moral Courage Like Esther."

A new book by Mohammad Qadam Shah, assistant professor of global development, titled will be published in July 2025 as part of Routledge's Exploration in Development Studies. It is ready for pre-order.

Walter gives invited lecture

On April 21, Assosciate Professor of History Alissa Walter gave an invited lecture about her research and recent book, Contested City: Citizen Advocacy and Survival in Modern Baghdad. The lecture was organized by New York University.
